Ambati Rayudu Praises Angkrish Raghuvanshi After KKR’s Vital Victory
A Rising Star at Eden Gardens
In a high-stakes encounter at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoff aspirations alive with a commanding 29-run victory over the Gujarat Titans. While the team performance was clinical, the spotlight firmly remained on 21-year-old Angkrish Raghuvanshi, whose match-winning knock left spectators and experts alike in awe.
The Match-Winning Performance
Sent in to bat by the Gujarat Titans, the KKR batting lineup displayed immense power and precision. The team posted a mammoth total of 247 runs for the loss of only two wickets. At the heart of this onslaught was Raghuvanshi, who remained unbeaten on 82 runs from just 44 deliveries. His innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression, punctuated by four boundaries and seven towering sixes.
Ambati Rayudu’s High Praise
The young talent’s performance did not go unnoticed by cricket veterans. Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo’s time-out show, former Indian and IPL star Ambati Rayudu lauded Raghuvanshi’s development, noting a significant shift in his approach to the game. Rayudu highlighted that Raghuvanshi is rapidly evolving into a complete batter capable of thriving across all phases of the game.
“His batting is getting better. He has become more confident and is turning into a batter who can play across each phase of the game,” Rayudu remarked. “This is a very unique skill, and the way he hits sixes has also improved. So far, Angkrish has just hit sixes against full-balls, but soon he will develop skills to hit other lengths too.”
Rayudu further emphasized the youngster’s temperament, noting that he possesses the patience and composure required to succeed at the highest level. “The player is seeing his graph grow and looks like a cricketer who can be a match-winner in a few years down the line. He has got lots of potential and time, and he doesn’t look hurried against the pacers, which is a very good sign,” he added.
A Rising Sensation in Domestic Cricket
Originally from Delhi but representing Mumbai in the domestic circuit, Raghuvanshi has quickly established himself as a player to watch. In the current IPL season, he has amassed 422 runs across 12 matches, including five half-centuries. With an impressive average of 42 and a strike rate of 146, he has become a cornerstone of the KKR batting unit. Beyond his primary role, he has also displayed utility behind the stumps, contributing four catches and a stumping.
The Road to the Playoffs
The victory against Gujarat Titans marks a pivotal moment for Ajinkya Rahane’s side. Currently sitting seventh in the points table with 11 points, KKR finds themselves in a position where every remaining match carries immense weight. To secure a spot in the playoffs, the team must win their final two home games—against the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals—to reach 15 points.
However, securing these wins is only half the battle. KKR’s fate also hinges on the results of other teams. They will need Punjab to lose both of their remaining fixtures, while simultaneously hoping that Rajasthan and Chennai do not secure more than one win each in their respective upcoming games. As the season nears its conclusion, the pressure is mounting, but with Raghuvanshi in such fine form, KKR remains a dangerous side that no opponent can afford to underestimate.
