A Commanding Performance at BKSP

The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) witnessed a clinical display of run-chasing as the Dhaka Leopards secured a resounding five-wicket victory over the Mohammedan Sporting Club. The match, hosted at the BKSP Ground No. 3, was defined by a calculated and aggressive approach from the Leopards’ middle order, effectively neutralizing the target set by their opponents.

Mohammedan’s Initial Struggle and Mushfiqur’s Resilience

After winning the toss, the Dhaka Leopards made an early statement by electing to bowl first. The pitch conditions, coupled with tight bowling, put immediate pressure on the Mohammedan top order. The side suffered an early collapse, losing key wickets including Anamul Haque Bijoy and Anisul Islam within the first few overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto, usually a reliable figure, found himself unable to navigate the movement, falling for just 13 runs off 14 deliveries. Parvez Hossain Emon attempted to stabilize the innings, grinding out 22 runs from 47 balls, but his dismissal by Shykat Ali left the team in a precarious position.

It was left to the experienced captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, to anchor the innings. Demonstrating his trademark composure, Mushfiqur built a vital 60-run partnership with Taibur Rahman for the fifth wicket. While Taibur contributed a steady 23, Mushfiqur took the lead, eventually reaching a hard-fought half-century. His knock of 68 from 80 balls was the backbone of the Mohammedan total, providing the platform for the lower order to accelerate.

Towards the end of the innings, Afif Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin provided the necessary impetus. Afif played a measured role with 39 off 53 balls, while Saifuddin injected energy into the final overs, scoring 33 runs including three fours and a six. These contributions pushed Mohammedan to a respectable, though ultimately insufficient, total of 225 for 8.

The Leopards’ Explosive Reply

Chasing 226 for victory, the Dhaka Leopards adopted an aggressive strategy from the first ball. Despite the early loss of Shykat Ali, who departed after a brisk 39, the innings found its momentum through the dynamic batting of Zawad Abrar. Abrar’s approach was nothing short of explosive; he took the fight to the Mohammedan bowlers, dismantling their attack with a sensational 66 off just 34 balls. His strike rate kept the required run rate well under control and prevented the fielding side from settling into a rhythm.

While the captain, Mohammad Mithun, was unfortunately dismissed via a run-out, the Leopards remained unfazed due to the presence of Mominul Haque at the crease. Mominul displayed exceptional technique and patience, anchoring the innings while others batted around him. As wickets occasionally fell, Mominul shifted gears, balancing calculated aggression with defensive stability.

The Partnership That Sealed the Win

The match was ultimately decided by an unbeaten sixth-wicket partnership between Mominul Haque and Debasish Sarkar. The duo displayed excellent chemistry, reading the game situations perfectly to rotate the strike and punish loose deliveries. They put together a match-winning 80-run stand that effectively shut the door on Mohammedan’s hopes of a comeback.

Mominul Haque finished as the undisputed star of the match, remaining unbeaten on 93 off 77 balls. His innings was a masterpiece of controlled aggression, guiding the chase with authority. At the other end, Debasish Sarkar provided invaluable support, staying not out on 38 off 51 balls, which included three boundaries and a six. The Dhaka Leopards reached their target with plenty to spare, highlighting the gulf in execution between the two sides on the day. This victory serves as a significant boost for the Leopards as they look to climb the standings in this highly competitive season of the DPL.
