Ishan Kishan’s Dismissal Sparks Reaction from Kavya Maran

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a poor outing against Rajasthan Royals on May 27 in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, as Hyderabad crashed out of the tournament after Rajasthan’s dominant performance with both bat and ball.

Ishan Kishan was one of the biggest talking points after the match since his dismissal caught the eye of SRH owner Kavya Maran and drew an instant reaction that Kishan would not have liked to see.

What Did Ishan Kishan Do Against CSK?

During a league match, Kishan sparked controversy by taunting the Chennai Super Kings home crowd at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Kishan played a match-winning knock of 70 runs off 47 deliveries to chase down CSK’s target of 181 and clinch a playoff spot.

After hitting the winning runs, the SRH wicketkeeper-batter, during the customary handshake, turned towards the home crowd and made a whistling gesture along with a home symbol using his hands, before aggressively signalling for the fans to go home and keep quiet.

This sparked massive outrage online, with CSK fans getting triggered and hurling abuse at Ishan Kishan.

However, Kishan remained nonchalant and later posted another Instagram picture mocking CSK fans again. It was seen as a stand for his own franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, which he captained during the initial phase of IPL 2026 in the absence of Pat Cummins.

Kavya Maran Disappointed With Kishan

As Ishan Kishan was sent back by Jofra Archer’s 150 kph delivery, cameras immediately panned towards Kavya Maran in the stands.

She looked disappointed and made a “what just happened?” gesture with her left hand, while despair and frustration were visible on her face as multiple wickets kept tumbling.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase of 244 runs turned into a nightmare. After Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s carnage-filled 29-ball 97, Hyderabad came out to chase but suffered an early heartbreak with Abhishek Sharma departing for a duck.

Travis Head followed soon after, along with Ishan Kishan and Smaran Ravichandran, leaving SRH struggling at 57/4 in just 4.4 overs. It did not take long before SRH lost seven wickets inside 12 overs, with the only resistance coming from Salil Arora and Shivang Kumar.

However, that resistance was not enough, as the game had already slipped away much earlier, handing Rajasthan a commanding 47-run victory. The defeat knocked Sunrisers Hyderabad out of IPL 2026, while Rajasthan Royals advanced to Qualifier 2, where they will face Gujarat Titans for a place in the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
