According to an official memo issued by the BCCI, these glasses are far more than simple eyewear; they are equipped with advanced features including live streaming, text messaging capabilities, and audio/video calling via mobile data or Wi-Fi.
The memo explicitly states: ‘Under the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA), Smart Sunglasses or Goggles can be classified as a Communication Device or Audio and Video Recording device, and there is a strict prohibition of using such devices near the PMOA.’
This enforcement is part of a broader crackdown on communication devices within restricted zones. Earlier this season, the Rajasthan Royals team manager was fined INR 1 Lakh after being caught on camera using a mobile phone in a prohibited area, highlighting the board’s zero-tolerance policy toward potential breaches of protocol.
Strict Penalties for Non-Compliance
Moving forward, all players and management staff are required to submit any such devices to designated security personnel before entering restricted areas. The board has issued a warning that failure to adhere to these regulations will result in significant penalties for both the individuals involved and their respective franchises.
